There's A Small Hotel...in Pioche...
This is an old photo of Cowboy George's old Mountain View Hotel from 1895. It now has a porch.
The Hotel is on the side of a hill and overlooks the Meadow Valley where we have a small ranch and a few critters.
The hotel has been a private residence since the early 1970s when Cowboy George bought the place and six other properties. There are no present plans to rent rooms to the public. It has in it, the original 6-1/2 b 3-1/2 foot Majestic wood cook stove from the 1800s. There's been some good cookin' done on that fantastic stove for over 100 years.
It's been a slow process refurbishing the old hotel, but it was getting done, little by little until much interference from the D.A. and county commissioners kept interfering, so we stopped trying.
The hotel has 29 large rooms, 34 total if you count all the little rooms. The roof is good. It has good electricity and plumbing.
Plumbing is relatively new in the past few years, however, there's still some needed to hook up all the bathrooms.
Most of the ceilings have been redone as well as the hallway walls and some of the room walls -- lathe and plaster taken out, and new insulation and wallboard put in. There are some rooms where the lathe and plaster have been removed and the new walls were not put in.
The hotel had 21 bedrooms -- and the beds and furniture is still there. However, Cowboy George removed some of the walls to make suites.
The old Majestic Wood Stove, old cabinets are in the commercial kitchen.
It would also make a great Steak House, Rehabilitation Center, Unwed Mother's Home, Orphanage.
The hotel has a great view, overlooking the Meadow Valley which is approximately 60 miles by 30 miles wide. You can see the mountains of Utah 30 miles away out the front door.
Weather in Pioche is 15 to 20 degrees cooler than Las Vegas (175 miles), day and night, summer and winter.
It snows in winter, but doesn't usually last past the next day. It doesn't rain very often.
Pioche has 900 residents, and quite a few new homes. It's starting to grow.
Pioche is mainly a tourist town ~ with the regular weekly visitors and snowbirds coming through twice a year. People come from all over the world. About 80% of the weekly visitors come from Las Vegas. It's their get-away retreat.
The hotel is being preserved now under the name of
THE MOUNTAIN VIEW PRESERVATION SOCIETY.The present plans are to make the hotel a state historical site/museum.
